The 13th Znojmo Music Festival is taking place in Znojmo and its surroundings. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the appearance of the reformation priest Martin Luther, and thus the thematic lines of the festival are inspired by relations between Protestantism and Catholicism.
The festival offers two concerts by the violinist Pavel Šporcl, a performance by the foremost European Baroque orchestra Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and appearances by talented child virtuosos. The programme also includes The Story of Christ, a combination and staging of works by Heinrich Schütz. “Heinrich Schütz was the most significant composer up until the time of Johann Sebastian Bach. He wrote in the spirit of the Lutheran Reformation. His music shows an exceptional sensitivity for the sound and significance of text. This makes his works absolutely comprehensible even for today’s listeners. They have an impact on both professionals and laymen,” states Roman Válek, the festival’s artistic director.
The Znojmo Music Festival will be taking place from 6 to 23 July 2017.
