Today is the anniversary of the Brno concert by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his sister Maria Anna. The concert took place in the premises of what is now the Reduta Theatre.
On 30 December 1767 the Mozart siblings gave a concert in a city tavern – today’s Reduta Theatre on Zelný trh. Two reports survive on their joint appearance. Wolfgang and Maria Anna, called Nannerl, according to them played on the harpsichord accompanied by local musicians. While the children made a great impression on the public, their views of the chamber orchestra according to the preserved sources were mixed. The children travelled back to Vienna on 9 January 1768 accompanied by their father Leopold Mozart.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni was also performed in today’s Reduta in December 1789.
