Wanted: a theater lecturer for the National Theater Ensembles Brno

The management of the National Theater Brno is creating the new position of theater lecturer/lecturer. Applications for the selection procedure must be sent by the end of the month.

The Brno National Theater is looking for a creative, capable person skilled in the art of improvisation and experimentation. The job will involve creating new lecturer programs for one of the Brno National Theater’s three companies - ballet, drama, or opera, or for one of the three festivals the Brno National Theater organizes. It will involve direct communication with the audience, dramaturgs, actors, opera singers, orchestra members, dancers, and even technicians.

What awaits you and how you can use your talent

A theater lecturer moves between the world of theater and the audience, deepening their mutual contact, curiosity, and respect. Their task is to bring the performing arts to different social groups, to nurture the audience community, and also to create artistic and educational programs for the public. If you feel the same way, this is the job for you! And you have the opportunity to develop and implement all of this at the Brno National Theater.

Lecturing activities

  • You will prepare partial lecturing programs for opera, ballet, and drama from first idea to implementation.
  • You will work closely with dramaturgs and artistic directors. Once you are familiar with the repertoire and the specifics of the operation of each company, you will develop and conceptualize individual lecturer programs together.
  • You will also be involved in the preparation of all three festivals organized by the Brno National Theater (Janáček Brno, Brno Theater World, and DANCE BRNO), where lecturer programs are an integral part of the program offer.
  • You will come into contact with actors, dancers, opera singers, orchestra members, as well as technicians, secretaries, and workshop leaders who will be your collaborators in the practical implementation of individual activities for the audience.

Working with the audience

  • Your task will be to deepen contact with the Brno National Theater’s existing audience and to find new audiences and ways to engage them.
  • You will communicate with schools, teachers, pupils, and students, but also with different communities, associations, or specific audience groups. But don’t worry, you won’t be on your own.
  • Together with your colleagues from the marketing and sales department, you will be involved in the preparation of the promotion of individual programs and events for partners and friends of the Brno National Theater.

What knowledge and skills you will need

  • a university degree (or university degree) in arts or teacher education
  • experience in working with people (educational and creative projects)
  • ability to work in a team as well as independently and to follow through
  • enthusiasm for lecturing and proactivity
  • ability to reflect and evaluate
  • good communication and coordination skills
  • time flexibility
  • English language at a communicative level, both written and verbal, an advantage

What we can offer you

  • stable background in a prestigious cultural institution
  • collaboration with the Brno National Theater artistic team across ensembles and collaboration at renowned international festivals
  • the opportunity to develop yourself and acquire new skills
  • flexible working hours
  • pleasant workplace in the center of Brno
  • form of cooperation either as an employment contract or work project agreement (DPČ)
  • start date – immediately
  • duration of the employment relationship – one year

On Saturday, 24 August, the Korean radio orchestra KBS Symphony Orchestra with its musical director - Finnish conductor and violinist Pietari Inkinen - came to Brno's Špilberk Festival with an exclusively romantic repertoire. The invitation was also accepted by South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, a graduate of the prestigious Julliard School.  more

For a quarter of a century now, the Brno Philharmonic has been organising the Špilberk Festival at the end of August in the courtyard of the castle of the same name. Four open-air musical evenings offer the audience a selection of concerts featuring classical, film and computer music, as well as often jazz and other genres. This makes it a diverse mix of performers and repertoires with an often pleasant, summery, laid-back ambience. This year's big and rapdily sold-out attraction was the Wednesday evening of 21 August, full of melodies from the James Bond films, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, headed by world-renowned conductor, composer and arranger Steven Mercurio. During the concert, the audience also got to enjoy singers Sara MilfajtováVendula Příhodová and David Krausmore

As part of its European tour, the Taiwanese Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir (TPCC), under the direction of artistic director and choirmaster Dr. YuChung Johnny Ku, took the city up on its invitation and visited Brno. The concert was held on Monday, 13th August in the hall of the newly renovated Passage Hotel.  more

The final concert of this year's season of the Brno Philharmonic was devoted to works by Antonín Dvořák and Jean Sibelius at the Janáček Theatre. On Thursday, 20 June, Danish conductor Michael Schønwandt, who had not appeared before a Brno audience since January last year, took the lead of the Philharmonic. In the first half of the programme, the orchestra was accompanied by violinist Alexander Sitkovetskymore

In the spirit of the idea that Brno and folklore belong together, the Folklore Ensemble Happening of the Year took place on Thursday 6 June. The event was organised by the Brno UNESCO City of Music Office in cooperation with the Brno Dances and Sings association. The event thus became part of a long-term project that set out to map the amateur music scene in Brno, and not only folk music. Last year Brno City of Music reached out to choirs in a similar way, and in the future will host garage bands and more. This just goes to prove the diversity of Brno's music scene, not only as regards professional ensembles, but also enthusiastic amateurs for whom music is an inseparable part of their lives.  more
