A discussion with the Czech composer, conductor and flautist Petr Kotik will take place at the premises of the Institute of Musicology in Brno today. He is the founder of the S.E.M Ensemble and the Ostravská Banda ensemble and artistic director of the Ostrava Festival of New Music - Ostrava Days.
Initiator and organizer of the Ostrava events associated with new music, Petr Kotík, comes from an artistic family, his father Jan Kotík (and also his father Pravoslav Kotík) was a distinguished painter and graphic artist. His brother, Martin Kotík, is an architect. Petr Kotík was born in Prague, he studied at the Prague Conservatory, where he founded the Musacia Viva Pragensis ensemble, and then he continued studying in Vienna. After his return he founded another, this time more experimental ensemble - QuaX, which was the first to present live electronic music in Prague. The composer is currently staying alternately in New York and Ostrava. At the Brno meeting, he will be presenting his wide range of activities with an emphasis on his own work consisting of instrumental, vocal and vocal-instrumental compositions. The discussion with Petr Kotík will be held on 7 December, 2015 from 17:30 in Room N41 at Janáčkovo náměstí 2a in Brno.
