The multi-genre festival On the Boards, Pavement, and Grass will come of age this year, so the organizers from TIC BRNO have extended it for a whole week. More than 25 theatre performances and concerts can be seen and experienced for free in the open air in the center of Brno.
“The festival has been closely linked to the Brno Music Marathon for several years. This year, however, where one ends, the other is just beginning. We offer a varied program of live art in the city, but at the same time we try not to overwhelm visitors and locals for just one busy weekend,” explains Jana Janulíková, director of TIC BRNO, adding: “The link between the two festivals will be the Sunday performance of a new circus called Nautilus, which will transport you to the world of science fiction literature.” The adventurous grotesque inspired by the works of Jules Verne will immerse the audience in the depths of the seas on 14 August at 21:00 on the Svoboda Square. The festival runs from 14 to 21 August.
In the early evening from 15 to 18 August, you can encounter small theatrical performances in the city center under the crocodile or at Jošt, be it Matej Záhořík’s fairy tales on request, Errek Maki’s environmental fairy tale, or magical stories inspired by the life and poems of Spanish poet Gloria Fuertes, both performed by the Micro-Theatre.
The main program awaits visitors on the weekend of 19-21 August. “Last year, the Björnson Orchard, an oasis of calm on the edge of the city centre, proved to be the main stage. From Friday to Sunday you can enjoy performances and concerts that will entertain children and adults alike. Personally, I’m looking forward to the concert of Roma rhythms by the band Bachtale Apsa, featuring the actress and singer Bára Hrzánová,” Janulíková invites. Families with children can watch several fairy tales and stories, such as one about the city of trees called Stromocity, a story about tyrannosaurs and stegomice called The Dinosaur’s Tale, or a fairy tale cabaret with folk songs called O Krahulíčkovi. The evenings will be enlivened by stand-up music and band concerts.
