The Maushaus Festival will present the stars of the underground scene. This year also in new venues

Maushaus Club Night returns to Brno. The second edition of this unique techno festival will take place in the Fléda club as well as in its underground. In addition to the new music space, the event will also introduce the “Dark Room” concept with a special sound design. Leaders of the contemporary dance underground such as Tommy Four Seven (UK), Colin Benders (NL), Olivia (PL) and Anthony Parasole (US) will visit Moravia.

The second edition of the Maushaus Club Night will now take place over two days on 14 and 15 October on a total of three stages. In addition to the Fléda, the event will also be hosted in the newly opened basement space below the club. Fans can look forward to even more intense contact with the underground dance scene. “The new premises give the festival the opportunity to further diversify its program. In the future, they will serve as a music club in their own right,” explains Fléda’s dramaturg Marie Butula Cichá. Club Night is announced for 14 and 15 October at the Fléda club.

The Maushaus program has grown considerably for its second year, both in terms of genre and the number of performers. The festival will present a total of fifteen representatives of the Euro-American scene who otherwise rarely perform in the Czech Republic. They represent a diverse spectrum of the contemporary techno scene from softer, playful ones to explosive dance positions. On Friday, the star British producer Tommy Four Seven will visit Brno. The Berlin-based founder of the acclaimed 47 label has made a name for himself as an experimenter with how far it is possible to go in hard techno sets. At the same time, he is one of the most prominent stars of the current DJ generation.

Dutch self-proclaimed modular Colin Benders also promises a unique experience in Friday’s program. His live performances, built on a wide variety of analogue synths, are an unmistakable spectacle. Respected Brooklyn-based producer Anthony Parasole (US) is characterized by his distinctively rhythmic, percussive sets. Techno on the border of various genre influences will be presented by the DJ associated with the Polish festival Unsound, Olivia (PL). This also applies to the popular Berlin duo CYRK (DE) and their playful live show.

Saturday’s program offers space for a unique dance event. Maushaus will premiere the new concept “Dark Room”. The main hall of the Fléda will be engulfed in darkness interwoven with a special sound design. The whole night will be performed by local stalwarts Psj, Marie Pravda, and Kosmic Skaut. Tel Aviv’s Lt. Dan will appear as a guest. Two-day tickets are on sale for 490 Kč. Tickets for Saturday only will be available at the door for 200 Kč. Maushaus is also supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the South Moravian Region. The activities of the Fléda club are supported by the Statutory City of Brno.

On Saturday, 24 August, the Korean radio orchestra KBS Symphony Orchestra with its musical director - Finnish conductor and violinist Pietari Inkinen - came to Brno's Špilberk Festival with an exclusively romantic repertoire. The invitation was also accepted by South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, a graduate of the prestigious Julliard School.  more

For a quarter of a century now, the Brno Philharmonic has been organising the Špilberk Festival at the end of August in the courtyard of the castle of the same name. Four open-air musical evenings offer the audience a selection of concerts featuring classical, film and computer music, as well as often jazz and other genres. This makes it a diverse mix of performers and repertoires with an often pleasant, summery, laid-back ambience. This year's big and rapdily sold-out attraction was the Wednesday evening of 21 August, full of melodies from the James Bond films, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, headed by world-renowned conductor, composer and arranger Steven Mercurio. During the concert, the audience also got to enjoy singers Sara MilfajtováVendula Příhodová and David Krausmore

As part of its European tour, the Taiwanese Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir (TPCC), under the direction of artistic director and choirmaster Dr. YuChung Johnny Ku, took the city up on its invitation and visited Brno. The concert was held on Monday, 13th August in the hall of the newly renovated Passage Hotel.  more

The final concert of this year's season of the Brno Philharmonic was devoted to works by Antonín Dvořák and Jean Sibelius at the Janáček Theatre. On Thursday, 20 June, Danish conductor Michael Schønwandt, who had not appeared before a Brno audience since January last year, took the lead of the Philharmonic. In the first half of the programme, the orchestra was accompanied by violinist Alexander Sitkovetskymore

In the spirit of the idea that Brno and folklore belong together, the Folklore Ensemble Happening of the Year took place on Thursday 6 June. The event was organised by the Brno UNESCO City of Music Office in cooperation with the Brno Dances and Sings association. The event thus became part of a long-term project that set out to map the amateur music scene in Brno, and not only folk music. Last year Brno City of Music reached out to choirs in a similar way, and in the future will host garage bands and more. This just goes to prove the diversity of Brno's music scene, not only as regards professional ensembles, but also enthusiastic amateurs for whom music is an inseparable part of their lives.  more
