The album of Moravian and Silesian carols under the name Písně vánočního času (“Songs of Christmas-time”) was recorded by the group Lilium Liste. When choosing the songs, they focused on lesser known carols. The recording is an authentic interpretation of the musical legacy of the folk tradition without extensive arrangements.
The members of the group Lilium Liste look for, reminisce, discover and choose songs coming mostly from Moravia, with some from Silesia. For example, rare motifs of romantic carols, legends and spiritual songs of the Christmas cycle, were kept through oral tradition. Their musical legacy is in the simple melodies and in the combination of modal and harmonic elements. The recording by Lilium Liste intentionally brings us diverse songs and carols that are not commonly known.
“We are an amateur grouping of people who love folk songs,” says Ludvík Běťák from Lilium Liste while also talking about the reasoning behind the authentic arrangements and accents appearing on the album. “We come from different places in Moravia, each of us has played, sung or danced in a folk ensemble or at least in a family band. We play and sing at home, we love family music and sometimes we are happy to play and sing for friends and acquaintances.” The album consisting of 23 tracks was published by Indies Scope.
