The second season of the Meeting Brno 2017 festival is connected with the celebration of the Czech-German Spring. The festival will ceremonially open with the launching of the Meeting Brno Point installation on Moravské náměstí Square and a concert by the Brno Philharmonic.
Last year, the first season of the festival took place, following up on the Year of Reconciliation project, by which in 2015 Brno commemorated the end of the Second World War in the broadest context, including victims of Nazi dictatorship and post-war violence. Meeting Brno offers a platform for meetings of representatives of different opinions, cultures and religions. The festival programme includes discussion forums, concerts and other artistic performances.
The Brno Philharmonic will present an orchestra concert by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, native of Brno (29 May 1897, Brno – 29 November 1957, Los Angeles). E. W. Korngold was born to a Jewish, German-speaking family in Brno, grew up in Vienna from age four and emigrated to the United States in 1938, where he earned world fame as an Oscar-winning composer of movie soundtracks. The Brno Philharmonic will appear under the leadership of the conductor Petr Altrichter together with violinist Sophie Jaffé. The Meeting Brno festival will run from 19 to 28 May 2017.
