The winner of the solo violin category is Amalia Hall from New Zealand while the winner of the string quartet category is a Slovak ensemble called the Mucha Quartet.
A total number of 60 competitors from 24 countries from all over the world met in Brno in the category of solo violin playing and in the category of string quartets. The 21st year of the international competition is held by the Musical Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. The competition focusing on young musicians who are 35 years of age or younger is organized in cooperation with the Leoš Janáček Foundation. First place in the best interpretation of Antonín Dvořák’s composition, in the violin category, was awarded to the New Zealand violinist Amalia Hall, second place was awarded to the Polish violinist Amelia Maszonska and third place belongs to David Mirzoev. In the category of string quartets, first place was awarded to the Mucha Quartet from Slovakia for the best interpretation of Leoš Janáček’s composition. Second and third place went to the Czech quartets, Doležal Quartet and Sedláček Quartet.
