The Institute of Musicology at the Faculty of Music is preparing an exhibition entitled Incursus barbarorum, dedicated to the composer Jan Novák and his work in exile. The opening of the exhibition will be introduced by Martin Flašar.
The exhibition, which will be on display from 22 March to 31 August 2023 in the reading room of the Faculty of Arts MU at 1 Arne Novák Street, also has an accompanying programme. The opening will be opened by musicologist Martin Flašar, who will present a lecture accompanied by musical examples of Jan Novák’s works. The opening will take place on 22 March at 18:00.
The programme will continue on Thursday 27 April at 18:00 with the Brno Philharmonic’s dramaturge Vítězslav Mikeš, who will introduce the audience to the orchestral works of Jan Novák together with his own experiences in performing Novák’s works. On Thursday, 4 May at 18:00, Tomáš Weissar – lecturer at the Institute of Classical Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University – will present his lecture Ianus Novak Latine Ioquens, which focuses on the composer’s relationship to Latin. The accompanying programme will be closed on 18 May by Rebecca Grosschmidtová, who, as a PhD student at the Institute of Musicology of the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University, will deal with the topic of Jan Novak’s film work since the 1960s and his collaboration with directors such as Karel Kachyňa, Jiří Trnka, Karel Zeman, and Vojtěch Jasný.
