The Brno group Anatoli focuses on the interpretation of Greek traditional music and the genre of rebetiko. The group has been playing for more than five years, and during that time a number of musicians of a wide variety of nationalities have passed through its ranks while its core has always been made up of Brno Greeks. The new album in the Stará Pekárna club.
To begin with it was a musical ensemble which worked with the traditional Greek music of Greeks from Asia Minor (now Turkey), primarily in the areas of the big cities like Smyrna (Izmir) and Constantinople (Istanbul). With the passage of time they however moved musically more toward the west until they reached the genre of rebetiko, which has often been compared to America’s blues. Songs, which in their time were seen as being underground and which in an interesting fashion linked western and eastern elements mostly tell of the lives of the oppressed, of the lives of those suffering injustice, of poverty, sadness and grief. In this genre the band has found itself and now already for the third year is performing in front of Greek and Czech audiences. Among their greatest current achievements was taking first place in the Port competition (2016), where in the regional round they took first place and progressed to the final in Řevnice. They won the jury’s special prize for the preservation of national traditions.
The concert will take place 25 April 2017 from 8 p.m. in the Stará Pekárna club.
