The Ensemble Opera Diversa has expanded its repertoire with an original work. The libretto of the opera Jsem kněžna bláznů (I am the Princess of Fools) was written by Olga Sommerová to music by Lenka Nota. The opera is conducted by Gabriela Tardonová.
The opera Jsem kněžna bláznů maps out the private and creative life of the first Czech woman novelist. The libretto, based on her correspondence, the poems of František Halas, Vladimír Holan and František Pavlíček, was written by the documentary film-maker Olga Sommerová. The signer Jarmila Balážová performs the main roll of Božena Němcová. The spoken role of her husband is taken by the actor Lukáš Rieger. “I would like the opera to be an inspiration for all of us to live a true, free and honest life. To draw attention to the often very simplified view of the extraordinary and complex personality of Božena Němcová, who even today can be an example to us for her bravery, sense of honour, spiritual outlook and refusal to compromise,” says the composer Lenka Nota.
Ensemble Opera Diversa with this is expanding its repertoire of original the original writing duo Kyas-Drábek. It is trying to seek out new or forgotten works and previously unvalued authors. “Božena is a friend to all Czech women who have not given up on their desire for personal and social freedom. For us it is a challenge and a guarantee that we can hold our heads up high despite ingrained prejudice. It inspires us to have the courage to think and act otherwise than has been expected from women over the ages, to discover our identity and self-esteem,” adds Olga Sommerová.
The premier will take place on Friday 17 November at 8 p.m. and on Saturday 18 November at 4 p.m. in the Reduta Theatre.
