ProART Company prepares “Song about Viktorka”
The upcoming premiere of ProART Company is a multi-genre stage project based on Seifert’s poem “A Song about Viktorka”. The poem is transcribed into a love letter by Jaroslav Seifert addressed to Božena Němcová. The story of the famous book character from Němcová’s pen is mirrored here against the background of the writer’s letters. The Brno premiere will take place in the former Brno penitentiary Káznice na Cejlu. more
Farewell to Beethoven: A Short Exhibition of the Manuscript
For a few days, the chapel of the Palace of Noble Ladies in Brno will host an exhibition of the autographed work of the 4th movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in B flat major, Op. 130. The autograph has so far been part of the collections of the Department of Music History of the Moravian Museum. The exhibition was created on the occasion of the return of the autograph to the Petschek family. more

The band MYDY is planning a new album launch in Brno
The band MYDY (formerly Mydy Rabycad) is releasing an album called simply “V”. It is available for listening on all streaming platforms. MYDY will release it in the Brno club Fléda. more
Today the National Theater Brno Ballet (NTBB) is preparing a day for families with children. The program includes creative workshops, a dance workshop, and the 100th reprise of the ballet The Nutcracker. more
French Week: Brno Philharmonic with conductor Marie Jacquot
The Brno Philharmonic has prepared a French-themed “mini-festival” for this week. Tomorrow it will start with the chamber concert Belle Époque, followed on Thursday and Friday by the concerts Schumann and the Colors of Paris. The orchestra will be led by the young French conductor Marie Jacquot. more
Ensemble Opera Diversa presents the world premiere of Light at the End of the Darkness
The one-act opera Light at the End of the Darkness for four voices was inspired by the life and work of František Drtikol, a Czech photographer who worked between 1901 and 1935. The music was composed by the Ensemble Opera Diversa’s principal composer Ondřej Kyas, the libretto and direction of the entire piece was provided by Kateřina Křivánková. more
Veszprém 2022: meeting of UNESCO cities of music
In Veszprém, Hungary, a meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is currently underway. The main coordinator David Dittrich and the coordinator Jana Padrnosová are attending the meeting on behalf of Brno. The first meeting after a long hiatus caused by the pandemic is attended by delegations from London, Canada, Pesaro in Italy, Llíria in Spain, Mannheim in Germany, Hamamatsu in Japan, and representatives of a dozen other cities. more
The Cotatcha Orchestra will present the concert Carp on a Rope (Kapr na Provázku) vol. III. The Brno big band continues its free concert series with a Christmas theme at the Husa na provázku Theater this year. This time the Cotatcha Orchestra will be joined by a great talent of the Bulgarian jazz scene, singer Veleka Tsankova. Along with an eclectic mix of American Christmas songs and Czech Baroque carols, this time she will also perform Bulgarian carols. more
On Saturday, 24 August, the Korean radio orchestra KBS Symphony Orchestra with its musical director - Finnish conductor and violinist Pietari Inkinen - came to Brno's Špilberk Festival with an exclusively romantic repertoire. The invitation was also accepted by South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, a graduate of the prestigious Julliard School. more
For a quarter of a century now, the Brno Philharmonic has been organising the Špilberk Festival at the end of August in the courtyard of the castle of the same name. Four open-air musical evenings offer the audience a selection of concerts featuring classical, film and computer music, as well as often jazz and other genres. This makes it a diverse mix of performers and repertoires with an often pleasant, summery, laid-back ambience. This year's big and rapdily sold-out attraction was the Wednesday evening of 21 August, full of melodies from the James Bond films, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, headed by world-renowned conductor, composer and arranger Steven Mercurio. During the concert, the audience also got to enjoy singers Sara Milfajtová, Vendula Příhodová and David Kraus. more
As part of its European tour, the Taiwanese Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir (TPCC), under the direction of artistic director and choirmaster Dr. YuChung Johnny Ku, took the city up on its invitation and visited Brno. The concert was held on Monday, 13th August in the hall of the newly renovated Passage Hotel. more
The final concert of this year's season of the Brno Philharmonic was devoted to works by Antonín Dvořák and Jean Sibelius at the Janáček Theatre. On Thursday, 20 June, Danish conductor Michael Schønwandt, who had not appeared before a Brno audience since January last year, took the lead of the Philharmonic. In the first half of the programme, the orchestra was accompanied by violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky. more
In the spirit of the idea that Brno and folklore belong together, the Folklore Ensemble Happening of the Year took place on Thursday 6 June. The event was organised by the Brno UNESCO City of Music Office in cooperation with the Brno Dances and Sings association. The event thus became part of a long-term project that set out to map the amateur music scene in Brno, and not only folk music. Last year Brno City of Music reached out to choirs in a similar way, and in the future will host garage bands and more. This just goes to prove the diversity of Brno's music scene, not only as regards professional ensembles, but also enthusiastic amateurs for whom music is an inseparable part of their lives. more
