Nearly 100 performances will take place in 25 blocks over the weekend during the first year of the multi-genre Brno Music Marathon festival. Concerts, happenings, performances and workshops led by prominent musicians transform the city into one big music scene. The festival is a pilot project of the Brno – Music Friendly City project.
The Brno Music Marathon showcase festival travels through the city and music at the same time. From Friday to Sunday (27-29 May), it will bring a nearly constant stream of concerts and performances that will take place in the streets, concert halls, clubs and churches. There will be Music in Cafés, Piano Relay, Music at the Old City Hall, Club Night, House Concerts, Marathon Music, Endless Organ, Music of Institutions, Šalina Pub and Busking. And a number of other great projects and happenings.
Singer Karel Heřman is the face of the festival. His Ukulele Orchestra jako Brno will get the events in Brno clubs flowing on Saturday which is the most intense day of the festival. The Club Night may turn into a contest to see who manages to visit all ten participating clubs.
It is not necessary to run as fast as possible during the marathon. It is equally important to pace yourself well and runners through the musical Brno can start in one of the cafés. In addition to the usual coffee or wine, music programmes will be waiting for them. Random visitors may be surprised by the Ponk Trio or Radek Bagár and Music in Cafés may motivate them to continue the journey towards new experiences. They do not even have to walk, they can use the Šalina Pub. It will ride through the city on Friday and Saturday evenings and DJ Green will be playing.
Piano returns to the Alfa Arcade and the Piano Relay comes with it. It may be passed between professionals, students, amateurs and children on Saturday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The director of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra David Mareček will guide them through the programme and play the piano. He also returns to the scene: he transferred to the most famous orchestra from the position of the director of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra.
Endless Organ will sound on Saturday in the Jesuit Church on Beethovenova Street from 10:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The brilliant instrument was played for the public for the first time two years ago, and it has still not lost its novel shine. Brno's best organists will be guided to it by the 92-year-old legendary organist Alena Veselá.
Anyone can join the Music Marathon with their event. All you have to do is agree with a few musicians and listeners and organise a house concert. All serious candidates can join at www.domacikoncerty.cz➚.
The music will sound throughout the day at the Old City Hall. The morning will belong to children aged 6 - 12 who can visit music workshops with Jitka Šuranská and Marian Friedl. Shortly after noon, students at the Children's Art School of Vítězslava Kaprálová will perform with their project entitled Tango Cuarteto del Sur. Then, violinist Jitka Šuranská will return on stage with her trio. More bands headed by the alternative stars Květy will continue in the afternoon.

The Marathon Folklore Music will start with folklore busking in front of the Palác šlechtičen on Kobližné Street. It will continue with a performance of students playing the dulcimer and a discussion with Jiří Plocek. A concert of the Kunovjané Dulcimer Band will close the Marathon Folklore Music.
Street musicians – buskers – belong perhaps to every city. Saxophonist and performer Pavel Zlámal or members of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra will join them during the Music Marathon. They will participate in a happening at the place where one day the concert Hall for Brno➚ should be built.
Major musical projects will be introduced by the Music of Institutions. Symphony concerts, operas or musicals cannot be normally organised in the streets or randomly. The Brno Music Marathon includes a concert of violinist Alina Pogostkina with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, a performance of the opera Dido and Aeneas and the musical Malované na skle. The Day of Milan Uhde will connect the Marathon with the Theatre World Festival➚.
The Brno Music Marathon was established through cooperation of the Brno Tourist Information Centre, C.E.M.A., TwentyFourSeven Promotions and Divadelní svět.
