Alf Carlsson/Jiří Kotača Quartet is a joint project of Swedish guitarist Alf Carlsson and Czech trumpeter Jiří Kotača.
These two musicians were brought together by their studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and six months after their return to their native countries, Alfa's planned trip to the Czech Republic, which eventually turned into a short line and then a regular band, which released the positively evaluated album Journeys (Amplion Records) in November 2019 and she performed dozens of concerts at jazz festivals and clubs in Sweden, Slovakia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
The band was completed by the most sought-after Slovak jazzmen of the youngest generation - Peter Korman on double bass and Kristián Kuruc on drums.
The music of the quartet mixes the influences of lyrical Scandinavian music and modern jazz with a pinch of Moravian and Slovak folklore, which brings a unique sound combination of this band, which emphasizes sound variety, strong melodies and works with connecting different musical traditions and roots of the individual members of the band. The band members have experience of performing concerts with Grammy-nominated musicians such as Ilja Reijngoud or Sulivan Fortner.
The band members themselves are among the award-winning musicians of the young generation in their countries. Alf Carlsson composed music for the Nobel Peace Prize, and Jiří Kotača is a nominated artist for the Anděl Award and winner of the 2020 Czech Jazz Harvest Award.
