The band Freetown Quartet was formed in 2019 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where saxophonist Luboš Soukup and pianist Vojtěch Procházka met to record a live LP at the legendary Børneteateret club in the Christian part of Copenhagen.
Danish rhythms Emil Brun Madsen and Morten Hæsum are long-standing musical partners. Together with Soukup, they played, for example, in the MAdHAs quartet, whose sound they refer to as "freebop garage jazz", and whose legacy the Freetown Quartet follows.
Energetic play, freedom of speech and imagination without borders are the hallmarks of the quartet's musical performances, and the "uncombed" of their speech is as welcome as the congenial commitment of the players.
