The classic Czech opera with a real tightrope walker! Since its premiere, this staging by director Ondřej Havelka has been one of the audience’s favourite productions by the NTB Opera. In March, this comic work, “peppered” with hits such as Let’s rejoice and be merry, Faithful love can’t be marred and I know of a maiden fair, celebrated 10 years as part of the repertoire of the NTB Opera company.

The story takes place in a small Bohemian village where two young lovers, Mařenka and Jeník, live. However, Mařenka’s parents, along with the marriage broker, want her to marry the son of the rich landowner, Mícha, to whom her father owes a debt…  “I tried to create a production which would be lively, colourful and above all enjoyable musical theatre, as after all it is a comic opera.” (Ondřej Havelka discussing his production)
