Verdi, Shakespeare and the theme of prejudice and individual differences in society is a combination promising great drama. Verdi's penultimate opera is a truly masterpiece with sculptural characters, where magnificent choral scenes alternate with intimate lyrical places.

Storms are raging on the shores of Cyprus and the people gathered in the port watch in horror as the ship returning from the war against the Turks tries to land. To everyone's relief, the ship docks safely and the crowd welcomes the victorious Otell. With a gripping choral performance, Verdi dramatically launches one of his most famous operas, only to play a dangerous play of intrigue and jealousy around Otell and his wife Desdemona through the treacherous Jaga.

Shakespeare's famous tragedy has been on the stage for more than four hundred years and has still not lost any of its relevance, and Verdi's music adds another dimension. Otello is a touchstone of heroic tenors, a role in which Verdi has placed all the shades of the human soul - from the warrior, through the tender and loving man to the wounded animal devoured by jealousy. This unique work of Verdi returned to the Brno stage after more than thirty years.
