Choreographer Edward Clug mixed an enchanting scenic cocktail of great, seemingly disparate ingredients. Shakespeare, music by rock band Radiohead and contemporary ballet. The result is a captivating production, which theater critics nominated for the Divadelní noviny Award and whose charm is appreciated not only by the young generation of spectators.
Edward Clug is a creator with a European reputation. His choreographic work is not unknown to the Brno audience either, in 2017 his home ensemble Ballet Maribor was a guest at the Janáček Theater with the production Peer Gynt. We have included in our repertoire his title Radio and Juliet, which since its premiere in 2005 has celebrated many tours in more than twenty countries around the world. Radio and Juliet is an untraditionally adapted Shakespearean story of famous Verona lovers to the music of Radiohead, one of the most successful rock bands today. You can be sure that you have never listened to Radiohead in this way and never seen Romeo and Julia like this - elegant movement aesthetics, unusual movement plasticity of Edward Clug and, as an impressive stage decoration, great lighting design and video projection. The non-traditional concept of Shakespeare's lovestory for one dancer and six dancers is played by the choreographer with the idea: What if Julie decides not to die? She wakes up next to Romeo and recalls in retrospect all the events that brought her to the tomb.
