Falling in love and not losing your mind is the art of relationship.
Do you need to win love or forget about it? This will be arranged by Dr. Dulcamary's elixir! Just one bottle and you're done! The drink of love has always been one of the most sought-after magical means of young girls and boys, and you can still find recipes for it on the Internet. And so it is no wonder that it is also a frequent subject of rumors - from the oldest tragic ones, such as Tristan and Isolde, to those with a good ending, which have become the subject of opera.
Donizetti was one of a famous trio of composers whose works completely dominated the Italian stage in the first half of the 19th century and gradually spread throughout Europe and overseas. His Drink of Love, which premiered in Milan in 1832, has no completely original theme and the librettist Romani borrowed the plot from D. Auber's opera, but unlike its French counterpart, Donizetti's music is one of the most popular operas to date. The bittersweet story of the shy Nemorin, who falls in love with the rich Adina and tries to gain her affection through a "love potion", is a grateful opportunity for singers to whom the composer wrote a number of beautiful duets and arias, including Nemorin's most famous Una furtiva lacrima.
Our production takes you to the sunny Italian countryside to the film studio of the 1940s, where Adina is a film star, admired and capricious by everyone, Nemorino's timid member of the film crew, Dulcamara a spirited actor and director in one and the whole team preparing to shoot a light sentimental comedy. Relationships begin to tangle when the famous foreign actor Belcore, a confident breaker of girls' hearts, arrives at the scene and the behind-the-scenes story begins to intertwine with the filming.
