Serenade, Sofa, Lunar Sea- Noire Blanc
This title is dedicated to choreographers who have lived and created in the USA. This electrifying triple bill features a diverse range of works, showcasing the best of the American dance scene.
Serenade is the first original ballet created by George Balanchine (1904-1983) in the USA and it had a major impact on the development of ballet in America in the 20th century. For this reason, Balanchine is rightly called the father of neo-classical ballet. This is the first time that our company will perform a work by this great master.
In contrast, The Sofa is by the contemporary artist, Olivier Wevers. A former principal of major North American ballet companies, Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, he is currently the Artistic Director of his own company Whim W’Him. The Company is a platform focused on dance, choreography and artists engaged in innovation and collaboration.
Lunar Sea, choreographed by Moses Pendleton, is the last piece in the programme. It will be a visual dance work from the world-renowned dance group, MOMIX which comprises of dance movement illusionists.
We promise an all-American evening full of contrasts, from crystalline neo-classical ballet to exhilarating visual and physical theatre.
Premiere 29th October 2015, Janáček Theatre
