The tea ritual in Shanghai was the impetus for the composition Tastes. The inspiration was not so much the ceremony itself, but the mere similarity between the perception of sounds, tastes and smells. Authors have long observed similarities and connections between the course of sounds and the taste of wines or foods; similarly steep onsets and long and gradual fades or overlaps of sensations, but only during that random tea ritual did they realize that this is one archetypal shape that I only perceive differently.
In this piece, those shapes are combined. The specific tastes of wines, teas and favorite dishes determine the structure and proportions of the composition. The individual processes are derived from the processes of preparing excellent drinks and at the same time they are the starting point of specific sound objects. Cooking overlaps with performance without wanting to be a continuation or irony of food festivals. It just becomes another eight-channel performance tool.
