Evening and night performances of the comic opera Les amours de Ragonde or Everyone wants to love in the uplifting scenery of the Paradise Garden of the Augustinian Monastery in Old Brno.
A comic opera in 3 acts, but within an hour! How to untangle such an opera love knot so fast? With wit and French charm and in a dance rhythm! Irresistible Roman Hoza in the title role of the old village girl Ragonda!
This is exactly how the French Baroque composer Jean-Joseph Mouret (1682–1738), one of the first creators of French comic opera, conceived. The charming work Les amours de Ragonde, where the main role of Ragonda's widow is untraditionally entrusted to a baritone, was originally created in 1714 for the aristocratic society of the Duchess de Maine. After its performance at the Paris Opera, it became very popular and was on the repertoire for many years. Then it and its author, as well as many other baroque operas, were forgotten, but even a three-hundred-year break did not detract from humor and excellent music.
