Unfortunately, even the label "explosive stage presence" doesn't do enough to describe the way Nik West moves, charms and shocks crowds wherever he goes. With a list of people she's collaborated with such as Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame, Prince, John Mayer, Glee and more, bassist, singer and songwriter Nik West is more than just another pretty face.
Known for her impressive cover of AC/DC's 'Back In Black', Nik shocked many rock fanatics and instantly became a new favorite of legends Steven Tyler and Lenny Kravitz.
Nik West's musical journey began in her hometown of Phoenix, AZ. It was there that her father taught her to play the guitar when she was just 13 years old. She grew up in a household full of music and creativity. Her sisters and older brother (keyboards, drums, violin and guitar) were her first band. Although she began her musical journey playing the guitar, as a left-handed phenom, she truly realized her calling when she discovered the bass in high school while listening to Michael Jackson's "You Wanna Be Startin Somethin'." Once she discovered the instrument, there was no stopping her. Music wasn't the only area in which West excelled. As a high school student, she also became a record holder in athletics. Unfortunately for the universities that offered her scholarships as an excellent athlete with a sharp mind, West chose music as her career.
While working on her first album "Just In The Nik Of Time", Dave Stewart of Eurythmics also got to know her work, fell in love with her soulful voice and offered her collaboration on several projects. She also began collaborating with Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, George Strait and Michael Jackson) on a recording project. Since then, Nik has become the first black woman to compose music for Disney's sports network, ESPN. She has performed and recorded with artists such as Prince, Quincy Jones, John Mayer, Santana, Larry and has jammed with Graham, Macy Gray, Esperanza Spalding, Orianthi, Bootsy Collins and others. “Nik West is definitely bringing back the funk groove and I love everything he stands for!” -Bootsy Collins. Her skills were soon noticed by the legendary music company Fender. They offered her strong artistic support for her exceptional voice and funky bass guitar. In addition, Nik West has partnerships with companies such as Rockstar Energy, Audemars Piguet, James Allen Diamonds, Vanderhall, Roland and others. West is also behind the Bass Domination Course, which serves mainly to discover, inspire and teach beginning bassists the necessary self-confidence and instrument discipline.
