Folklore is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the Kyjovsk region, and dulcimer music is an integral part of it. That is why pupils at ZUŠ Kyjov are guided not only to classical music, but also to folk music, in the form of lessons in dulcimer music. There are already three dulcimer music groups operating at the school – the Large dulcimer music group, the Middle dulcimer music group and the Little dulcimer music group, which was created in 2022 for the youngest pupils from 5 years old. Since 1981, the artistic director has been Petr Petrů, director of ZUŠ Kyjov and Primate of Jura Petrů Cymbal Music. Children's dulcimer music of ZUŠ Kyjov regularly takes first or second place in competitions announced by the Ministry of Education and Culture. In recent years, it was the second place in the regional round of the folk music competition (2018) and two second places in the national round in 2021. Cymbal music regularly performs at folk and non-folk events (Slovak year, Kyjovské slavnosti, openings, performances for schools, in the cultural center in Kyjov, in the Municipal Library of Kyjov, at the Ždánický histopedál event...). For several years, she has also been performing in Brno at Náměstí Svobody as part of the Mozart's Children project, and cooperates with the Zbraslav Zbraslav School of Arts on the program of the Zbraslav Open School in Prague. In 2023, she established a partnership with expatriate associations in the Croatian city of Lipovljany. In May 2024, students of the Great and Middle dulcimer took part in a tour of the USA, during which they performed at the consulate of the Czech Republic in Chicago, at the traditional multi-thousand festival Houby Days in Cedar Rapids, and at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York.
