Jazz. Rock. Jazz-rock. Sophisticated pop. For over four decades, drummer Simon Phillips has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to excel in a variety of musical environments. His sound is best characterized by three words: precision, intensity, emotion.
Already in his twenties, Simon has collaborated with iconic personalities such as Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce, Pete Townshend, Mike Oldfield and Brian Eno. And also with artists who were important pioneers of jazz rock in the 1970s, among them Al Di Meola, Jon Anderson, Jan Hammer or Stanley Clarke. Phillips also played with cult bands The Who, Judas Priest and Tears for Fears, but he is most associated with the no less famous Toto. Phillips played with this rock band, which once won a Grammy for best album in the main category, for more than twenty years. Fans of jazz may know him from, among other things, his seven-year work in pianist Hiromi's trio or from the author's Protocol.
