The Brno premiere of multi-instrumentalist and singer Jacob Collier, once a prodigious teenager, now an admired versatile artist who is on the verge of becoming a legend.
Few people are blessed with as much imagination and musical talent as Jacob Collier. The London talent added diligence and artistic fertility to these prerequisites, so it is no wonder that he is considered by many to be one of the most innovative musicians of his generation. After all, when he was barely twenty, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny were already paying tribute to him, and Quincy Jones took over as producer.
Collier first made himself known to the public about a decade ago as a teenager through social media and homemade clips posted on YouTube. He created his debut album In My Room (2016) at home in his little room. Result? Enthusiastic responses from the general and professional public crowned with two Grammy awards. The success opened the door to other big names in the music industry, so he tried working with, for example, pop and hip-hop artists such as Coldplay, Tori Kelly, SZA and many others. Since 2018, he has been working on Djesse, a project of unprecedented scale - four albums comprising fifty tracks in collaboration with more than thirty musicians, each of which is a completely separate musical world in terms of sound, style and genre. Tracks from Djesse Volumes 1 & 2 earned him two Grammys for arrangements, and Collier earned a Golden Record in the same category in 2021 with Djesse Volumes 3, which was even nominated for record of the year in the main category.
