JFB 2022: Chris Thile

Mandolinist, singer and composer Chris Thile is coming to the Brno premiere to present his fresh mix of jazz, classical, Americana, gospel and bluegrass in the intimate setting of the Besední dom. All by myself, with just a mandolin and a microphone.
Chris Thile has both the guts and the skills to play a JS Bach piece, a bluegrass standard, a blues, minimalism or his own spiritual in one recital. A solo recital is a royal discipline that only very good musicians dare to tackle. A solo mandolin recital is a discipline that only the truly chosen dare to do. And California native Chris Thile really is such a chosen one. He raised the mandolin to the level of a symphony orchestra instrument, received a scholarship from the MacArthur Foundation - an award for musical geniuses, has already collected three Grammy awards plus countless nominations and, above all, collaborates with the most renowned musicians across genres. In addition to his bands Punch Brothers or Nickel Creek, he performs with Brad Mehldau, Edgar Mayer, Yo-Yo Mo and other virtuosos.
