For over ten years, the Department of Jazz of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts has boasted not only an excellent teaching staff, but above all talented students. They also get space during the already traditional festival concert.
Jazz interpretation at HF JAMU is the first open field of its kind at a domestic academy. Jazz education has a long tradition in Europe, but undergoing the most tumultuous changes in attitudes. The Brno Department of Jazz Interpretation at JAMU is the pioneer of jazz education in our country. Within the republic, it offers the widest range of fields, now without any instrumental restrictions. David Dorůžka, Lubomír Šrámek, Jiří Slavík, Jiří Levíček, Cyrille Oswald, Marián Ševčík, Jan Jirucha, Juraj Bartoš and Matúš Jakabčic pass on their experience to students of the Czech and Slovak jazz scene. The latter recently confessed: “A great team of teachers met at the JAMU Department of Jazz Interpretation. I would immediately go to some of them to study the segment of jazz that they master better than I do. If I had such opportunities at the age of our students, I would be happy. JAMU is one of my heart's business. "
During the eighth presentation concert of the department within the festival, several bands will perform. An ignorant listener might imagine an anonymous student scramble, but in reality they are advanced jazz ensembles often presenting the original music of their members.
