Inspiration from classics and electronics, anthemic melodies and telepathic interplay. The GoGo Penguin trio is one of the most interesting bands on the contemporary British scene and it is no wonder that it has earned the title "Radiohead of British Jazz".
With their melodic lines and sophisticated harmony, GoGo Penguin is reminiscent of a typical piano trio based on jazz and classical, but the rhythms draw more from electronic music. It was through this meeting of opposites that the band earned the label post-jazz. Although critics of the very existence of the post-jazz subgenre like to have lengthy discussions, they also agree that the acoustic-electronic sound of GoGo Penguin is exciting and creates impressive and emotional music. It draws on an intoxicating combination of influences from artists such as Brian Eno, John Cage and Squarepusher, as well as the atmosphere of the rain-soaked gray streets of Manchester. It features elements of rock and minimalism, as well as trip hop and other club dance music.
