The 110th anniversary of the birth of the famous jazz pianist Gil Evans will be celebrated by the big band Cotatcha Orchestra with a unique concert on May 15 at the Cabaret des Péchés in Brno.
"Evans and his work are considered one of the cornerstones of modern big band music. He has arranged music for a number of performers such as Miles Davis and Sting, his handwriting is quite exceptional. That's why we decided to expand our 16-member ensemble with horns, tuba, flutes and other reed instruments, so that we can interpret the compositions in the original arrangements, ”says Jiří Kotača, bandmaster of the Cotatcha Orchestra.
The program will mainly present Evans' work for Miles Davis from the turn of the fifties and sixties. The Cotatcha Orchestra with an extended wind section will be conducted by Juraj Valenčík. Jiří Kotača will take over the solo part of Miles Davis.
