Jiří Antonín Benda
Medea, melodrama for reciters and orchestra
In addition to his performance as a violinist, Tomáš Netopil will also present himself at the festival in his leading role as one of the leading Czech conductors of the middle generation. Together with the actors and orchestra of the Czech Ensemble Baroque, he will perform Jiří Antonín Benda's melodrama Medea, which was an extremely innovative and inspiring composition in its time due to its consistent combination of music and spoken word. The work, which premiered in 1775, even attracted the attention of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who mentioned it in his letters to his father.
