Music Marathon Brno 2022 I Saucējas

The female vocal ensemble Saucejas was founded in 2003 at the Latvian Academy of Culture in Riga and is devoted to folk music from the Latvian countryside. The group focuses mainly on traditional singing styles and techniques, with particular emphasis on local traditions involving polyphonic singing and on various types of archaic polyphony. Dabā's latest double album was created as part of a Latvian Academy of Culture research project, along with a video documentary and a bilingual book that places songs and Latvian folklore in a historical and cultural context, references sources, and analyzes some texts. The aim of the project was to place a traditional song in its most natural setting. These were, for example, pastoral songs, work songs, songs to celebrate a good harvest, or songs for individual seasons.
