Do you like flipping through the calendar? Do you ever dream while looking into it and imagine what happened on that day exactly 100, 150, 200... years ago? Do you enjoy anniversaries, preferably round ones, and holidays? We do, and accordingly we have also prepared a cycle of family concerts in the 2024/2025 season. We will remember important anniversaries of premieres of compositions, births of composers, musical events, as well as holidays and so on, which are linked to the respective period in which the concert is taking place. The main dramaturg (the one who chooses the compositions) is therefore time. And you will be a bit of one too, because we will give you the opportunity to choose one song for each concert - democratically, of course. Come create, listen and have fun with us.

Who doesn't love Easter! We tune in to them not only as the most important Christian spiritual holidays, but also as a celebration of the arrival of spring.
PÄRT: PASSIONS OF GENOA / VFDH 2025
Arvo Pärt
Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Joannem
Martinů Voices artistic director Lukáš Vasilek The Passion according to the Gospel of St. John was traditionally read in the liturgy on Good Friday. Arvo Pärt (born in 1935) completed his passions already in Austrian exile in 1982, and they gradually became among the best-known works of this author as well as the most important spiritual compositions of the 20th century. Although in many respects inspired by ancient centuries, they work powerfully and suggestively draw listeners into the story of Christ's suffering even in a chamber ensemble. The Brno premiere of Passions will be provided by the ensemble Martinů Voices and instrumentalists led by Lukáš Vasilek.

BAROQUE ORATORIUM / VFDH 2025
Marc'Antonio Ziani La Morte vinta sul Calvario. Sepolcro
Dagmar Šašková, mezzo-soprano Les Traversées Baroques artistic director Judith Paquier zinc conducted by Etienne Meyer The Venetian Marc'Antonio Ziani (1652 to 1715) spent the last fifteen years of his life at the imperial court in Vienna. He first became famous as a composer of operas, but during the reign of the three Habsburg emperors, he wrote one oratorio every year between 1701 and 1711 for performance in Holy Week at the Holy Sepulcher. This is where the name sepolcro comes from. Performed by the French ensemble Les Traversées Baroques, led by cymbal player Judith Paquier, Ziani's sepolcro will be performed with mezzo-soprano Dagmar Šašková in the role of Víra (La Fede) in the Czech premiere.
CHORAL IN THE WATERS I: VIA
DARK CLOCK (tenebrae), musical meditation in unique underground temples in Brno.
This year's dark watch returns to a unifying theme. After the ensemble performance of Zelenka's lamentations and responsories or the responsories of Carlo Gesualdo da Venos, the end of Holy Week will be accompanied by his own chants, but in a completely unusual place and for the first time in a theatrical sense. The recently opened Brno reservoirs on the Yellow Hill are reminiscent of underground temple spaces. In three days, each time in one of the three reservoirs, different stories will be heard and played out in different colorful forms of the Gregorian chant.

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: ORGAN CONCERT / VFDH 2025
Christophe Mantoux organ
This year's organ concert will take us to Bach's Germany. Christophe Mantoux has prepared a program for us composed entirely of compositions by the Leipzig cantor. Their inclusion is very varied and imaginative, largely counting on choral preludes to Easter songs. In connection with the excellent acoustics of the church of St. Augustina will be a spectacular musical celebration of Easter from the point of view of the baroque reformed liturgical organist.
JAZZ EASTER SUITE / VFDH 2025
Oscar Peterson Easter Suite (jazz concerto) Luboš Šrámek trio The 100th birthday of the jazz great Oscar Peterson is a unique opportunity to commemorate his Easter Suite, in the improvisation of the jazz trio Luboš Šrámek.
SPANISH RENAISSANCE VESPERS / VFDH 2025
Diergo Ortiz Musices liber primus Sea Maiorum artistic director Jakub Kydlíček From the first book of spiritual works of the Spanish Renaissance composer Diego Ortiz, we will hear solemn vespers composed for the festival. The polyphonic compositions are heard in an unprecedented sound variety thanks to the diverse cast of the small vocal ensemble and various types of mainly wind Renaissance instruments.
TO THE LIGHT / VFDH 2025
Ralph Vaughan Williams The Lark ascending Einojuhani Rautavaara Symphony no. 7 (Angel of Light) Josef Špaček violin Brno Philharmonic conductor Anna-Maria Helsing For the very first time, the final concert of the Easter festival will be without a human voice, and therefore also with lyrics set to music. However, strong emotions are evoked by the very names of the compositions, even more so by themselves and their performance in the temple space. The famous Flight of the Lark by Ralph Vaughan Williams can be understood as the joy of a new spring, a resurrection. The seventh symphony of the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara belongs to his series of works with an angelic theme and was premiered in 1994.

PAVEL ČERNOCH 50
The spectacular birthday celebration of tenor Pavel Černoch at the Špilberk Festival was interrupted by a storm. We therefore moved the replacement concert to the Janáček Theater so that the weather would not surprise us again. We believe that all listeners of the festival concert, for which we had contact, have already received tickets to the Janáček Theater on the new date. If you bought the concert as part of the Špilberk festival physically in advance and you do not yet have the new replacement tickets, please contact us at predprodej@filharmonie-brno.cz, we will agree with you on the next procedure. If the new date does not suit you, you can return your tickets until the end of 2024.
Brno Philharmonic: Drummer beats
Someone wise said that playing drums is like living in a toy store. Everyone can play with something completely different here for a while! And what can be played? And do drummers even need instruments? And isn't there a bit of a drummer in each of us? An interactive concert in which children appear as equal partners of the musicians and are literally "within their reach". No sitting on chairs, but lots of musical entertainment for 3 to 6 year olds. moderated by: Kristýna Drášilová and Magdalena Dostálová Performer: Kristýna Švihálková (percussion) Venue: Meeting House
YOUNG BLOOD or MUSIC CLOSE UP IV
The Orchestral Academy of the Brno Philharmonic (OAFB) is a project that enables young talented musicians – students or recent graduates of music schools accepted on the basis of a selection process – to gain orchestral practice in a professional ensemble. In this way, the Philharmonic trains new generations of players who may one day join its ranks. The OAFB has been operating for six seasons and its fruits are already evident: some of its graduates are already members of our orchestra, others regularly return to help out. The importance and value of this experience for the artistic growth of young musicians and for the future of the orchestra is thus indisputable.

[SATIE] 100 YEARS AFTER / 37th year of NEW MUSIC EXHIBITION
Since in 2025 it will be 100 years since the death of one of the most important figures in music of the 20th century, Erik Satie, the creators of the dramaturgical concept will focus on the largest and deepest possible presentation of his work, but also on the works of contemporary composers who were influenced by Satie's work.
New Music Exhibition: SATIOLLAGE
Anne LaBerge, DJ Gäp, Michal Indrák, Martin Ožvold, Otto Wanke, JAMU students – world premiere Michal Indrák, Otto Wank – sound engineers Department of Composition HF JAMU (CZ) Although Erik Satie was not taken very seriously during his lifetime and aroused many doubts and even rejection in the musical community, in the following decades it turned out that he was one of the most influential figures of the first half of the twentieth century (in the list of his followers we would find such artistically and generationally distant personalities as John Cage or Alphex Twin). And so the project will pay tribute to this tireless inspirer with music that will be (as John Cage predicted more than eighty years ago) “created by electrical devices.
New Music Exhibition: MORCEAUX EN FORME DE POIRE
MORCEAUX EN FORME DE POIRE_new edit Martin Burlas, Tomáš Boroš, Petr Cígler, David Dramm, Hauke Harder, František Chaloupka, Robert Kolář, Michal Nejtek, Piet-Jan van Rossum, Vít Zouhar – world premiere Tomáš Boroš, Ivan Šiller (SK) "…morceaux en forme de poire" (1995) In 1995, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Satie's death, a project (introduced by none other than John Tilbury) was presented at the Bratislava festival EVENINGS OF NEW MUSIC in its world premiere, in which the composers addressed responded in various ways to Satie's charming four-hand "pear-pieces" (i.e. Trois morceaux en forme de poire). Thirty years after this event, the creators of this year's Expozice nova muzykdy have decided to reach out to other composers to contribute their own "pieces" to this breathtaking collection. A selection from that 1995 project will be performed, enriched with compositions commissioned by the Expozice nova muzykdy 2025 festival, which will be given their world premieres.
New Music Exhibition: CHAT NOIR
Erik Satie CHAT NOIR, SPORTS ET DIVERTISSEMENTS Hana Hána, Sára Medková (CZ) Erik Satie made his living as a pianist in Parisian cabarets. He therefore also wrote a lot of practical music for this environment. His songs, which to a large extent shaped the typical Parisian atmosphere, were very popular in their time and retain their charm to this day. The program will also be complemented by a selection from the piano cycle Sports et Divertissements (Sports and Entertainments), which Satie accompanied with humorous anecdotes, which were originally intended only for players, as a kind of "conceptual pastime", since the pieces were intended for home music making. However, so that the audience does not miss Satie's amusing comments, they will be performed by singer Hana Hána.
New Music Exhibition: MUSICIRCUS
Erik Satie PARADE, John Cage CHEAP IMITATION, MUSICIRCUS BCO, conductor Pavel Šnajdr closing reception for performers and audience An orchestral version of a unique composition by one of the greatest figures of 20th-century world music, based on the structure of Satie's enigmatic work Socrates (which Cage conceived as a kind of "cheap imitation"). The performance of this composition will be followed by a closing reception for all participants (i.e. performers and audience), which will include a performance of Musicircus, another iconic Cage project. Nothing better can be imagined at the end of the Satie year of the Exposition of New Music.
Mozart's Children's Gala Concert
A magnificent concert where the most talented students of primary schools from all over South Moravia will sit in one orchestra together with the FB musicians.
