PÄRT: PASSIONS OF GENOA / VFDH 2025
Arvo Pärt
Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Joannem
Martinů Voices artistic director Lukáš Vasilek The Passion according to the Gospel of St. John was traditionally read in the liturgy on Good Friday. Arvo Pärt (born in 1935) completed his passions already in Austrian exile in 1982, and they gradually became among the best-known works of this author as well as the most important spiritual compositions of the 20th century. Although in many respects inspired by ancient centuries, they work powerfully and suggestively draw listeners into the story of Christ's suffering even in a chamber ensemble. The Brno premiere of Passions will be provided by the ensemble Martinů Voices and instrumentalists led by Lukáš Vasilek.
