Steven Isserlis The legendary British cellist regularly performs concerts with the world's leading symphonic ensembles (Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, etc.), with chamber orchestras (Scottish, Australian, Zurich, Mahler, and the St Paul Chamber Orchestra) and with ensembles of period instruments (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra). In classical programs, he often conducts chamber orchestras from solo cello. He premiered a number of new works that were written for him (John Tavener's The Protecting Veil, Thomas Adès's Lieux retrouvés or Wolfgang Rihm's One Movement Concerto), and he is also interested in the learned interpretation of early music.
