DESCRIPTION
Jacky Terrasson piano
All his life, Jacky Terrasson has stood with each foot on a different continent, which he had a stake in from birth: his mother is African-American, his father is French, he himself was born in Berlin. At first he devoted himself to classical music, then through the recordings of Miles Davis from the family disco he honed his skills to jazz. This led him to a big puddle, to study at Boston's Berklee College, to found his own trio, to play in clubs in Chicago and New York, and also to sign a contract with the famous Blue Note label. The latter was of course interested in the winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition from 1993, and the very next year he released an eponymous profile trio album, which, in addition to most of the standards, also contained several of the protagonist's own compositions. The discography of the extremely active artist is rich and diverse. Her main line is the albums that Terrasson records under his own name and usually contain part of his original compositions and part of originally processed cover titles, in the selection of which, however, the pianist is far from sticking to strictly jazz boundaries, on the contrary, he likes to break them in the direction of pop, rock and folk . In addition to this main direction of Terrasson's work, his collaborative projects or guest appearances on other artists' recordings are also very interesting. And so we can recall, for example, that already in 1997 he recorded the joint song album Rendezvous with Cassandra Wilson, prepared several albums with drummer Cindy Blackman or the phenomenal slide guitarist Ry Cooder, and worked with Ray Brown, Jon Hassell or Dianne Reeves.
