Confluer
The word "confluere" comes from Latin and means "to flow together". The composition of the same name by the internationally successful Lithuanian composer Justė Janulytė was written as a piece to be performed immediately before Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor – like one river flowing into another. Janulytė takes over the famous opening theme of Mozart's symphony – a figure resembling a sigh (sospiro), which she varies, colors and harmonizes in a variety of ways, preparing the listeners for the arrival of Mozart's work. The piece was successfully premiered on March 13, 2024 in Paris (Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France, conducted by Kristiina Poska). The Brno Philharmonic co-commissioned the composition and will perform it in the Czech premiere. Justė Janulytė, creator of so-called monochrome music, is not an unknown figure in Brno. In 2014, her composition Prodlužování nócí was performed by the Brno Philharmonic at the Exposition of New Music festival, and a year later, her multimedia full-length project Présýpací hody was presented at the Moravian Autumn, which started the composer's brilliant international career.
