Symphony No. 7 in E major WAB 107
Brno Philharmonic
conductor Dennis Russell Davies
The Brno Philharmonic is entering its 69th season under the leadership of chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies, for whom this will be his seventh season at the helm of our orchestra. The concert program will commemorate two of this year's jubilees: the founder of Czech national music, Bedřich Smetana, and the prominent Austrian symphonist Anton Bruckner. This year, 200 years have passed since the birth of the two giants of the romantic period. Dennis Russell Davies was the head of Bruckner's orchestra in Linz for a full fifteen years before his Brno chief conductor engagement. Thanks to frequent performances of Bruckner's works there, he deeply penetrated not only into the music of this native of Ansfelden (today's suburb of Linz), but also into its interpretive specifics and pitfalls. He thus belongs to the renowned Bruckner conductors, and each of his performances of a Bruckner composition provides a powerful experience. In Brno, he already conducted the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth symphonies, now we can look forward to the Seventh.
