ŠTETL FEST: HAAS 125/80, SCHÖNBERG 150
With its subtitle "Dignity in Diversity", the multi-genre international festival of Jewish culture gives an insight into Jewish culture and history. The first year took place in Brno in September 2022 and aroused a positive response due to its size, dramaturgy and program. The second year chose trains as their main theme, whose connection with the Jewish past of the 20th century is more than symbolic. The theme of the third edition of 2024 is "Jewish trauma in art from Kafka to Barbie", which offers a wide range of important challenges, especially the attempt to name Jewish trauma, its transmission to the next generations, and also the need to transform it into an artistic expression. The historical development of this tragic experience and its spillover into the present will be presented at the festival. The Brno Philharmonic has regularly contributed concerts to the festival's program since its first year. At this year's event, he will commemorate two important composers of Jewish origin: the Brno author Pavel Haas and the Austrian representative of the so-called second Viennese school, Arnold Schönberg. – More at www.stetl.cz.
The concert takes place as part of the ŠTETL FEST festival.
From 5:00 p.m., a discussion with the conductor Alexander Liebreich about his Jewish roots will take place in the Besední dům, which will be followed by lectures on Arnold Schönberg and Pavel Haas.
