"Here be Sirens" is a phrase that was used as a cartographic note on medieval maps in places of uncharted waters. It is also the name of an opera that combines beautiful music, terrifying din, grotesque comedy and Aristotelian tragedy, and presents the mythological Sirens as real living beings, preoccupied with their own origins and obsessed with the possibility of escape from the dullness of constant irresistible desire. Extraordinary flexibility is required from the trio of female performers, as they are singers and actresses at the same time, and they also play the piano, which is the main object on stage as a multi-functional instrument.
