Filharmonie Brno
conductor Dennis Russell Davies
One of the many objectives that Dennis Russell Davies set for himself in the role of Filharmonie Brno’s chief conductor was the performance (and recording) of every symphony by Antonín Dvořák. For the 2021/2022 season, he chose two of the early ones: Second (performed on 10 and 11 February 2022) and Fourth (two weeks later). The idea to combine them with piano concertos by Johannes Brahms, Dvořák’s friend and kindred spirit, simply suggested itself. Returning as soloist to Brno is Elisabeth Leonskaja, who bewitched the local audience in autumn 2019 with her performances of Bartók’s Third Piano Concerto and the complete Beethoven piano concertos.
