Four Movements for Two Pianos
Maki Namekawa piano
Dennis Russell Davies piano
• Piano duo of life and artistic partners Dennis Russell Davies and Maki Namekawa • Works for two pianos by three Americans who rank among the most famous composers of today and can be more or less pigeonholed as musical minimalists • One of Reich’s earliest works (1967), written using the technique of “phasing”, in which the same melodic and rhythmic pattern is played concurrently at various tempi • Adams’s 1996 work named – like his autobiography – after his favourite place in California • Glass’s “symphony” for two pianos, premiered in 2008 by the Davies & Namekawa duo
