The Addams Family

01/04/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

horror musical comedy

A mysterious gloomy house in seclusion somewhere outside the city near a cemetery. Here lives the rather peculiar Addams family, whose members delight in creepy and morbid humor. Their favorite color is black and they consider death to be the most beautiful thing in life. However, the Addams family's day-to-day terrifying routine changes drastically when young Wednesday brings her new friend Lucas. What more? Lucas's parents are also scheduled to visit this demonic household, and the love-struck Wednesday demands that her relatives behave normally. Like normal people - that is, completely different from what they are used to. At a dinner together, where there are a lot of awkward exits, Wednesday finally, in order to calm the situation, announces that she and Lucas are getting married, which only really shakes everyone...

The Witches of Eastwick

08/04/25, 18:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

the return of the popular magical musical comedy

At the beginning of October, it will be 20 years since the opening of the Music Scene. The opinions of many naysayers, who claimed in 2004 that the Brno Municipal Theater would own an unused, useless building after a few seasons, seem to be mere smiling memories from today's perspective. Brno's musical scene has already permanently entered (not only) the Czech theater map, and new productions are added to the list of premieres listed here every year, whether they are premieres of original titles or performances of classic musicals. In connection with the celebrations of this anniversary, we decided to return to the musical, which many viewers still remember. Thanks to almost 150 reruns that have taken place since the premiere in 2007, under the name of The Witches of Eastwick, many people remember this production, which brought Petr Štěpán the prestigious Thalia Award for his portrayal of the demonic Darryl Van Horne, rather than the original book or film.

Sign - Easter concert

18/04/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

The project brings together several artistic treatments of the zodiac signs. He has no ambition to glorify or critically evaluate astrology. It is the pure creativity of the artists involved in the project combined with their personal insight into that mystical space, which naturally offers various inspirations and interpretations. Forms of ordering the constellations on the ecliptic have existed (and evolved) for several thousand years, and due to their undeniable attractiveness, they have received a lot of space in our time. Almost everyone knows in which sign they and their loved ones were born. Regardless of belief, indifference or deep interest in astrology, the zodiac signs are simply an integral part of our lives.

On the stage of the Musical Scene, you can expect a performance of an orchestral composition by composer Zdenek Merta - twelve parts imaginatively dealing with the possible interpretation of the character of all signs - performed by the orchestra of the Brno Municipal Theater under the direction of chief conductor Dan Kalouska. This stage performance will also include a dance performance performed by members of the Brno Municipal Theater and a presentation of poems by Petr Štěpán. Esther Mertová and Gabriela Vermelho will also perform in selected compositions.

Jackal years

02/05/25, 14:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

"Close your eyes, most of you can see better..." The famous film musical comedy by director Jan Hřebejk and screenwriter Petr Jarchovský from 1993, based on the story of the same name by Petr Šabach, does not present a realistic picture of the Czech 1950s. Rather, she builds, with admitted exaggeration, a monument "to honor the heroes who once drove people mad," as she sings in her final song. It attempts to embody the dream of freedom and independence that every generation needs.

Mamma Mia!

15/05/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

Few musical titles have literally caused a global uproar like the musical Mamma Mia!, which is full of the immortal hits of the Swedish band ABBA. It belongs to the group of so-called jukebox musical, when a new, original story is invented for existing songs, in which mostly well-known hits are inserted. Catherine Johnson, the scriptwriter of this musical, has done admirably with a procedure that is not often met with enthusiastic reception. The experienced British dramatist has managed to write a fun and captivating story in which well-known songs are an integral and natural part.

Manon Lescaut

03/06/25, 19:00 / Biskupský dvůr

Director Stanislav Moša is staging Nezval's text for the second time, having first done so in 1995, when the theatre celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with this production in the newly renovated hall on Lidická Street. At the time, the director and manager wrote about Nezval's text: "There is little Czech theatre literature that can be said to be a poem. Through it speaks a true passion bound by an amazing form enchanted in the beauty of the Czech language." Moša's adaptation of Manon Lescaut, which was subtitled "lyrical drama-confession", broke away from the linear narrative of the well-known story and created a timeless parable. The old abbé de Grieux recalls his fateful relationship with a sinful saint, which gives the originally lyrical story dramatic dimensions and brings to life long-ago secrets, hints and loves in the memories of a man at the end of his life.

Sugar! (Someone likes it hot)

05/06/25, 18:00 / Činoherní scéna MDB (The Drama Theatre of the Brno City Theatre)

The musical was based on the legendary film Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe. It is unbelievable, but the aforementioned film was first shown almost sixty years ago, in 1959. The musical of the same name then achieved extraordinary success worldwide, and in December 2008 it was brought to the stage of the Municipal Theatre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, by director Stanislav Moša. He has now also taken on the direction of the production in our theatre. Two poor musicians accidentally get caught up in a war between mafia gangs. Manon Lescaut

07/06/25, 20:30 / Biskupský dvůr

Golden Lyre

13/06/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

The musical production Golden Lyre will reveal the backstage and present the Bratislava Lyre Festival as a phenomenon of the time, without nostalgia, without idealization, but with perspective, humor and naming the defects of the former regime, which presented this exceptionally watched and popular event as a showcase of the culture of socialist Czechoslovakia. Lyre – golden, silver or bronze… In a single night, it created stars out of performers and hits out of songs. However, one inappropriate verse from the Lyre Stage caused a ban on creation and public performance, and managed to destroy the careers and lives of performers and their families.
