horror musical comedy

A mysterious gloomy house in seclusion somewhere outside the city near a cemetery. Here lives the rather peculiar Addams family, whose members delight in creepy and morbid humor. Their favorite color is black and they consider death to be the most beautiful thing in life. However, the daily routine of the Addams family is drastically changed when young Wednesday brings her new friend Lucas. What more? Lucas's parents are also scheduled to visit this demonic household, and the love-struck Wednesday demands that her relatives behave normally. Like normal people - that is, completely different from what they are used to. At a dinner together, where there are a lot of awkward exits, Wednesday finally, in order to calm the situation, announces that she and Lucas are getting married, which is just a big wave for everyone...

The members of the strange Addams family first appeared in a 1938 comic by Charles Addams, and their stories were then published in The New Yorker magazine for five decades until the author's death in 1988. Charles Addams drew over 1,300 comic strips in his lifetime. In the 1960s, the popular characters also made their way to TV screens in a live series, where they got the names that remain with them to this day. Several animated series and feature films followed. For now, the last animated film version of the stories of the creepy and funny family premiered in 2019, followed by the second part in 2021. In 2022, the streaming company Netflix launched the first eight episodes of the series Wednesday (directed by Tim Burton, Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall) with great success. The series about the smart, sarcastic and a little heartless Miss Addams is to continue with a second series in 2023.

The musical adaptation came from the workshop of Broadway matadors Marshall Brickman (among other things a constant collaborator of Woody Allen) and Rick Elice, who wrote the libretto and music. The lyrics were created by Andrew Lippa, the author of the songs for the musical Big Fish. The musical was first seen by audiences in Chicago in 2009, but it received its official Broadway premiere at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in New York on April 8, 2010. Brno audiences can also look forward to this very funny, ironic and slightly horror show for the whole family with a significant amount of exaggeration and great melodies, which will be performed by the Municipal Theater Brno on the Music Stage, directed by Stanislav Slovák.
