The Nine has premiered on Broadway in 1982, over seven hundred reprises, and has won five Tony Awards including the one fort the Best Musical. It was based on the legendary film by Federico Fellini 8 ½. The number in the title of this director's legendary autobiographical film is the number of pictures Fellini has shot. So Maury Yeston added a one half more to Fellini's film for the music he added to the story. The plot of the musical shows us an Italian film director named Guido Contini, who is at the age of forty years, in the middle of a deep personal and working crisis. He's got to finish the film and he does not know how to deal with his wife and a lover, he stops understanding all the women in his life, including mother, producer, critic or life muse. Guido's professional and personal life blends together as he seeks to save both his career and his marriage. All women who complicate director's life materialize on the scene, the difference between ideas, memories, and the reality that the director's mind is confused.
