something something

The dance, electronic and sometimes post-punk band something something is made up of singer Alžběta Trusinová and Tomáš Tkáč, who in addition to singing also provides synthesizers and guitar. They are accompanied at concerts by the energetic drummer Václav Švestka.

In songs with poetic Czech lyrics, the band succeeds in connecting the shared experience of people who are searching for their place in the world and trying to live in such a way as to stand up to themselves. The main lyricist Alžběta Trusinová also often works with the theme of female experience and empowerment. However, an element of playfulness and exaggeration is still present in their work.

The band was formed in 2019 and released three records, Začíná (2020), Útržky (2021), for which they were nominated for the Vinyla and Apollo music awards, and Trěti (2023).

Something something is a couple and a band. They live, compose and perform together. And they love it.

I forgot

The music project Zapoměls, behind which is the Brno-Jesene songwriter Aleš Macenauer, captured the Czech alternative scene in 2021 with the album Mésíc ve váz. The original folk aesthetic fades from his second album Jesnou from 2023, and the album shifts to an electronic sound dominated by synths, dance beats and post-punk guitars. Here, the author retains his characteristic signature, but this time the production is transferred to the floor of a sad disco. The flagship single Smál se a hvězdy padaly is still in rotation on stations such as Radio 1 and Radio Wave, some other songs also appeared on Radio Proglas, for example. The album itself was included in the top 10 recordings of last year by the Reflektor show, and Vinyla named it the album of the week.

"One of the most interesting records this year."

He performs live with Zapoměls in a two- to three-member lineup. Guitars, analog synthesizers and samplers appear on stage, and the concerts themselves oscillate between indie guitar music and soft techno. During its existence, Zamopělce played more than a hundred concerts, among others at the Metronome, Boskovice and Banát festivals. He also performed as support for Jaromír 99 or Post-music.

I've forgotten is characterized by its authenticity, it has its own desire to experiment and push the boundaries of genres without losing its easily recognizable uniqueness. Innovations and shifts are constantly present in the project, so the author's signature is manifested rather in fine threads that intertwine his work, but do not prevent sound changes.

"Zapomělsem belongs to the most interesting young singers of today, who are not afraid to experiment with form or genre moves."
