A bunch of excellent people
Being a creative actor on the music scene brings, in addition to the joy of creating, a necessary feeling of incompetence. The songs of Party of Excellent People try to approach similar feelings from many directions without hiding or pretending. They may thus be able to reach even deeper than their authors would have expected.
Beautiful, but often short moments as well as change as a supporting element carry the message of the album called Je bléjn. Behind the album are two prominent producers of the contemporary Czech scene, Tomáš Havlen (post-music) and Tomáš Tkáč (something something).
"Already the album cover symbolizes the unifying concept and reveals the approach of the entire recording. Feeling stupid and out of place is perfectly fine, it can mean that you are doing something new and different, at least for yourself. Classic public therapy in time, accepting yourself with everything. Musically, we aim for directness, at the same time we reject the blissful heater in the rock of our fathers. On the contrary, the biggest role models are the monumental and narrative pop of today such as Caroline Polachek, or the outright band reading of thoughts and storytelling like Big Thief. The tradition of Czechoslovak songwriting and his sense for a clearly articulated song are mixed into this. Our role model continues to be our community label Divnosti and all the twists and turns of the domestic scene," says frontman Zdeněk Lichnovský.
It's beautiful is devoted to the engulfment of one's own feelings and their subsequent sharing ("This all ends up in your feed" newsletter composition), re-evaluating one's own identity ("I don't want to be the man of my role models" - the composition of something), the inability to control one's own actions in the flood of everyday activities (" I'm doing ten things at once again" - the song "Farewell") and prescribing the first antidepressants ("half a life for half an hour" song "washed knees"). Zdeněk Lichnovský, the lyricist and main composer of the Party of Excellent People, gives an account of the last two years lived against the backdrop of pandemics, wars, internal contradictions and a happy family life.
"After the Pelhřimovy festival, the guys from post-music shouted at us that we had to make a huge pop record, that we shouldn't hold back at all. This has been playing in my head for a long time, and already during the preparation of the Monstrproces single at the end of 2021, Havlen joined the mix of the song. We got a kick out of it. It struck me as an ideal idea to combine Tkáč's wonderful sensibility for songwriting with Havlen's engaging and adventurous electronic journey. And they nodded to it! It was a big motivation to see them work together, because I admire their work without hesitation. Drummer Martin Nouza added a distinct electronic-club feeling. We experimented, mixed, changed familiarity," adds Lichnovský. In addition, Tkáč is behind the home label of PVL publishing house Divnosti.
