This exceptional evening will feature a performance by a string quartet that will transport listeners into the world of Vivaldi's musical magic. Look forward to the unrepeatable atmosphere of a concert hall filled with anticipation, where the sounds of stringed instruments will take you to the beautiful world of natural cycles as captured by master Vivaldi. In this version of the quartet, you will experience the freshness of spring, the joy of summer, the tranquility of autumn and the frosty beauty of winter. This concert will offer more than just music. The hall will be illuminated by hundreds of candles, which will create a magical atmosphere and perfectly complement Vivaldi's masterpiece. The combination of music and light will ensure an unforgettable evening full of emotions.
Cheerful is the life of an artist in a mansard in the Latin Quarter. It doesn't matter that it's not for rent, it's snowing outside, and instead of coal, a novel is burning in the stove. Rudolf, Marcello and Collin always manage somehow. But what confuses them is love. Marcello worries about the fickle and capricious Musetta, Rudof and the seamstress Mimi seem to be made for each other, but even here the idyll does not last long. Puccini's La bohème, inspired by the French writer Henri Murger's novel La Vie de bohème and the life of Parisian students and artists in the mid-19th century, became one of the most popular operas, quite rightly. Even though the composer was initially reluctant to set the subject to music, he created a work full of joy and sadness, and the whirlwind of hidden emotions in the music will not leave any of the listeners cold. Thanks to his experience from his studies at the conservatory, when he himself experienced similar situations to his opera companions, Puccini painted an impressive and believable picture of a famous Parisian district populated by diverse characters.

Do you like flipping through the calendar? Do you ever dream while looking into it and imagine what happened on that day exactly 100, 150, 200... years ago? Do you enjoy anniversaries, preferably round ones, and holidays? We do, and accordingly we have also prepared a cycle of family concerts in the 2024/2025 season. We will remember important anniversaries of premieres of compositions, births of composers, musical events, as well as holidays and so on, which are linked to the respective period in which the concert is taking place. The main dramaturg (the one who chooses the compositions) is therefore time. And you will be a bit of one, too, because we will give you the opportunity to choose one song for each concert - democratically, of course. Come create, listen and have fun with us.

YOUNG BLOOD or MUSIC CLOSE UP III
The Orchestral Academy of the Brno Philharmonic (OAFB) is a project that enables young talented musicians – students or recent graduates of music schools accepted on the basis of a selection process – to gain orchestral practice in a professional ensemble. In this way, the Philharmonic trains new generations of players who may one day join its ranks. The OAFB has been operating for six seasons and its fruits are already evident: some of its graduates are already members of our orchestra, others regularly return to help out. The importance and value of this experience for the artistic growth of young musicians and for the future of the orchestra is thus indisputable.
The Marriage of Figaro
Without borders or beyond the border? How long will Rosina and Almaviva's true love last, which was supposed to be forever, and when will the innocent flirtation with Cherubin turn into something much more serious? Where are the boundaries in human relationships... After the successful production of Handel's Alcina, the top orchestra Collegium 1704 returns to the Brno theater under the baton of Václav Luks to, together with the director Jiří Heřman, set out to discover the beauty of Mozart's music and his opera, which enjoys unceasing popularity all over the world. And it's no wonder, because The Marriage of Figaro, in addition to the brilliant and sparkling music, which will sweep you away with its incessant flow similar to a mountain stream, also boasts an almost dramatic libretto. And how could it not be, when the basis for Da Ponte was the play of the same name by the excellent French playwright Pierre de Beaumarchais.

Così fan tutte
Do not test relationships, you risk that your girlfriend devotes her feelings to someone else or Mozart full of eroticism on the stage of the Mahen Theater. The complex relationships between men and women await you through the eyes of the young director Anna Petrželková. That's how they all are, or The School of Lovers, that's the title of the third opera, which was created from the artistic partnership of librettist Lorenzo da Ponte and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a story about a seemingly harmless bet on female fidelity. But nothing is ever black and white in human relationships, and this is especially true in this opera. Mozart actually followed up on the previous works Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro, which are difficult to put into a precise box - they always give us a mischievous smile in the middle of the drama, and on the contrary, tears and anger are rarely hidden behind the laughter.

conductor Dennis Russell Davies
Steven Isserlis The legendary British cellist regularly performs concerts with the world's leading symphonic ensembles (Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, etc.), with chamber orchestras (Scottish, Australian, Zurich, Mahler, and the St Paul Chamber Orchestra) and with ensembles of period instruments (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra). In classical programs, he often conducts chamber orchestras from solo cello. He premiered a number of new works that were written for him (John Tavener's The Protecting Veil, Thomas Adès's Lieux retrouvés or Wolfgang Rihm's One Movement Concerto), and he is also interested in the learned interpretation of early music.

Manon Lescaut
“Manon is a heroine I believe in and therefore cannot fail to win the hearts of the audience. Why couldn't there be two operas about Manon? A woman like Manon can have more than one lover. Massenet feels her like a Frenchman, with powder and minuets. I will feel it like an Italian, with a desperate passion," declared Puccini determinedly, when his publisher tried to talk him out of composing an opera on a theme that had already been set to music. And he did well, because Manon Lescaut has been one of his great successes since its premiere in Turin in 1893. He kept what he promised and offered his audience passion, despair and hope that overcomes even the tragic end of the main character. After all, love never dies.

The girl is dancing. One by one, in sensual movement, her seven veils fall to the ground. She dances to please King Herod, and she only wants one thing in return. The head of the man she loves. If he does not want to return her love, Salome longs at least for the kiss of his dead mouth… Expressive, short and shocking, that's how Strauss's opera Salome based on the play by Oscar Wilde could be briefly described. The story inspired by the Bible about the lovely Salome, the daughter of King Herod, and her obsessive love for the prophet Jochanaan really caused quite a scandal when it premiered.

Dagmar Šašková, mezzo-soprano Les Traversées Baroques artistic director Judith Paquier zinc conducted by Etienne Meyer The Venetian Marc'Antonio Ziani (1652 to 1715) spent the last fifteen years of his life at the imperial court in Vienna. He first became famous as a composer of operas, but during the reign of the three Habsburg emperors, he wrote one oratorio every year between 1701 and 1711 for performance in Holy Week at the Holy Sepulcher. This is where the name sepolcro comes from. Performed by the French ensemble Les Traversées Baroques, led by cymbal player Judith Paquier, Ziani's sepolcro will be performed with mezzo-soprano Dagmar Šašková in the role of Víra (La Fede) in the Czech premiere.

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: ORGAN CONCERT / VFDH 2025
Christophe Mantoux organ
This year's organ concert will take us to Bach's Germany. Christophe Mantoux has prepared a program for us composed entirely of compositions by the Leipzig cantor. Their inclusion is very varied and imaginative, largely counting on choral preludes to Easter songs. In connection with the excellent acoustics of the church of St. Augustina will be a spectacular musical celebration of Easter from the point of view of the baroque reformed liturgical organist.
