After seventeen years, Wagner's Lohengrin returns to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in a new and ethereal conception by director François Girard. Conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, tenor Piotr Beczała sings the title role of the mysterious swan knight. Soprano Tamara Wilson portrays the virtuous Duchess Elsa, unjustly accused of murder, who bravely defies the scheming witch Ortruda, played by soprano Christine Goerke. Bass-baritone Yevgenij Nikitin is Ortruda's powerful husband Telramund, and bassist Günther Groissböck sings King Henry the Bird.
